'Detour' is a fine example of Ulmer's directing genius. ________________________ Nightclub pianist Al Roberts heads for California in pursuit of his girlfriend Sue who has left him in New York. Whilst hitchiking he gets a lift from a sleazy looking gambler who then mysteriously dies enroute. Roberts fearing he might be accused by the police of murder then takes on the identity of the deceased driver - a decision that plunges his life into even greater turmoil ...
